Background

IGA Meeting in El Salvador 28-31 October 2009

El Salvador Geothermal Association (ESGA) and the International Geothermal Association (IGA) will hold meetings of its committees and Board of Directors in San Salvador, El Salvador, on 28-29 October 2009. An important item on the reunion is the status of World Geothermal Congress to be held next year in Bali, Indonesia.

After the meetings on October 30th, a Geothermal Workshop is organized by LaGeo, ESGA, the United Nations University (UNU-GTP) and the IGA. Topic for the workshop is "the Geothermal Resources in the Central American Countries". A field trip is programmed for October 31th to the Berlin Geothermal Field.

Agenda

The host of the meetings is the El Salvador Geothermal Association (ESGA) in cooperation with the geothermal power company LaGeo. In conjunction with the meeting several other events will be organized. The schedule for the events is as follows:

“The Central America Geothermal Workshop: The geothermal resources in the Central American Countries, to be held on October 30th 2009”.

Selected lectures from the IGA, UNU-GTP and Central America geothermal experts will participate in the Workshop programme (see the agenda and program detail below).

Venues

The venue for the IGA committee meetings, the Annual General Meeting and the IGA Board meeting will be held in the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, located in "La Gran Via Mall" in the town of "Antiguo Cuscatlan", between San Salvador and Santa Tecla (side by side).

The venue of the Central America Geothermal Workshop, will be conducted at LaGeo´s facilities in Santa Tecla, about 4 km from the Courtyard Hotel.

The geothermal field trip will be to the Berlin Geothermal field, located 100 km east of Santa Tecla City.

Hotel reservations will be made at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel (where the IGA meetings will be held) by the local organizers for each individual participant when he has submitted his travel schedule. Therefore, it is not necessary for you to contact the hotel directly.

U.S. $ 90 Standard room single occupancy with breakfast buffet included.

The International Airport at Comalapa is located approximately 45 km from Santa Tecla and about the same distance from the Hotel Courtyard Marriott (40-45 minutes by car). LaGeo will provide the transportation between the airport and the hotel for all BoD members and guests.
