The government of Iceland and the Geothermal Training Programme of the United Nations University are honored to invite you to the Short Course on Geothermal Development in Central America to be held in San Salvador, El Salvador on the 25th of November to the 1st of December 2007.

The main topics for this seminar are surface exploration, reservoir assessment, environmental aspects and management, which will include a resource assessment for each participating country. The course is set up in cooperation with the energy agencies and earth science institutions responsible for the exploration, development and operation of geothermal energy power stations and utilities in their respective countries/regions.

The one-week course will be given by a selected group of ISOR/Orkustofnun experts and several ex-UNU fellows around the world, with special focus on Central American experts. The course will include a whole - day field trip each in Ahuachapan and Berlin geothermal fields.   

Participants will be invited personally by mail and will be sponsored by the United Nations Geothermal Training Programme.  The course will be hosted by LaGeo S.A. de C.V.

The upcoming “Short Course on Geothermal Development in Central America: Resource Assessment and Environmental Management” will be held in the facilities of LaGeo S.A. de C.V., one of the sponsors of this event, on the 25th of November to the 1st of December 2007.

The central office of Lageo is located at Santa Tecla, approximately 5 km southeast of the Courtyard Marriot Hotel, the official host for hotel accommodation of the participants.

The Courtyard Marriot Hotel is located near the latest commercial and entertainment center “La Gran Vía”, which houses a number of malls, restaurants, bars, a movie theater and a discotheque.

Objetivies

The first Workshop for Central American countries was held in El Salvador in 2006 with the good cooperation of LaGeo S.A. de C.V .

The aim of the Workshop was to give high level decision makers from the respective energy and environmental ministries, leading geothermal agencies, and electric utilities in the region an overview of some of the key issues of geothermal development, with a special focus on environmental issues.

This year, 2007, a Short Course on Resource Assessment and Environmental Management will be held in El Salvador.

The course will be a combination of lectures, project work and field trips and participants are expected from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Mexico. As well as international lecturers from Iceland, Kenya and the Philippens will share their experties with the participants.
